What is VAT?

VAT (Value Added Tax) is an indirect tax imposed on goods and services at every stage of production and distribution. Unlike sales tax, VAT is applied to the value added at each stage, from raw materials to the final sale. At each stage, businesses collect VAT from buyers and remit it to the government.

In simple terms, VAT is a consumption tax on the increase in value of a product as it moves through the supply chain. It is charged by manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers, and ultimately borne by the final consumer.

Our VAT calculator helps determine both inclusive and exclusive VAT prices in the UK.

How to Work Out VAT With Our VAT Calculator

Using the VAT calculator is simple. You only need to enter two values out of three fields: the product price, VAT rate, or gross price. Click "Calculate" to get the VAT amount and total price. You can also use it to find the net price by subtracting VAT from the gross amount.
