Choose the input type, enter the value, and the calculator will instantly convert it to PPM (parts per million).

The PPM calculator measures the value of any quantity in parts per million (ppm), useful for very dilute concentrations of solutes in solutions or gases.
1 ppm = 1 mg/L or 1 mg/kg. It expresses very small concentrations, just like percent represents parts per hundred.
For example:
1 ppm of a substance means 1 part in 1,000,000 parts of water.

PPM allows us to express tiny amounts in large volumes, for example, measuring contaminants in water. 1 ppm = 1 part in 1 million parts of solution.
For gases, ppm can be converted to mg/m³ using:
Concentration (mg/m³) = 0.0409 × PPM × Molecular Weight (g/mol)
Convert 100 ppm of NH₃ into mg/m³:
Concentration = 0.0409 × 100 × 17.03 = 69.65 mg/m³
| Gas | Output (mg/m³) | Molecular Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Ammonia (NH₃) | 69.652 | 17.03 g/mol |
| Carbon monoxide (CO) | 114.561 | 28.01 g/mol |
| Carbon dioxide (CO₂) | 180.001 | 44.01 g/mol |
| Chlorine (Cl₂) | 289.981 | 70.9 g/mol |
| Formaldehyde (CH₂O) | 122.806 | 30.026 g/mol |
| Hydrogen (H₂) | 8.262 | 2.02 g/mol |
| Methane (CH₄) | 65.604 | 16.04 g/mol |
| Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) | 139.387 | 34.08 g/mol |
| Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂) | 188.181 | 46.01 g/mol |
| Ozone (O₃) | 196.320 | 48.00 g/mol |
| Unit | % | ‰ | ‱ | pcm | ppm | ppb |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| % | 1 | 0.1 | 0.01 | 0.001 | 0.0001 | 10⁻⁷ |
| ‰ | 10 | 1 | 0.1 | 0.01 | 0.001 | 10⁻⁶ |
| ‱ | 100 | 10 | 1 | 0.1 | 0.01 | 10⁻⁵ |
| pcm | 1,000 | 100 | 10 | 1 | 0.1 | 0.0001 |
| ppm | 10,000 | 1,000 | 100 | 10 | 1 | 0.001 |
| ppb | 10⁷ | 10⁶ | 10⁵ | 10⁴ | 1,000 | 1 |
Example 1: 5 g of Arsenic in 1500 g of solution
ppm = (5 / 1500) × 1,000,000 = 3333 ppm
Example 2: Grams of solute in 100 g of 1.2 × 10² ppm solution
Grams of solute = (1.2 × 10² × 100) / 1,000,000 = 0.012 g
Output includes the ppm of solute and optionally molar concentration.
1 ppm = 1/1,000,000 = 0.000001 = 0.0001%
It can be either:
PPM calculations help track tiny concentrations of solutes or impurities accurately. A dedicated ppm calculator simplifies these computations for both mass and volume.
