This calculator estimates your overtime or holiday pay based on your standard hourly rate. It works for weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly pay periods, calculating overtime at 1.5 times your regular rate.
Time and a half is an increased pay rate usually applied for overtime or extra working hours. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), U.S. employees who work more than 40 hours a week are considered overtime. Most companies pay overtime at 1.5 times the standard hourly rate.
For holiday or special occasion work, some employers offer double time, which is calculated by multiplying the standard rate by 2.
Use the following formula:
Time and a half rate = Regular hourly rate × 1.5
Solution: Salary per week = $400 Regular hourly rate = $400 / 40 = $10 per hour Time and a half rate = $10 × 1.5 = $15
